ADHD Therapy

DO YOU WISH YOU COULD LIVE UP TO YOUR POTENTIAL?

  • Are you having a hard time focusing on a task which impacts your ability to get things done at work or in your personal life?

  • Do you suffer from impulsivity, racing thoughts, and poor organization skills?

  • Would you like to learn to thrive and manage your ADHD symptoms with ease?

Living with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is like navigating through a constantly shifting landscape. It may feel like you have multiple tabs open in your mind at all times, each vying for your attention with varying levels of urgency and intensity.

Your mind may wander easily, which makes it difficult to focus on tasks or conversations for a long period of time. And this can lead to missing details and forgetting important information.

The inner restlessness that comes with ADHD can cause you to fidget and constantly have the need to move. You may also have to battle impulsiveness, often making rash decisions in the heat of the moment, which can lead to risky behaviour.

ADHD can have a profound impact on your life in many areas

Common attention deficit symptoms can deeply affect your professional life or academic endeavours when organization is constantly a challenge and meeting deadlines becomes a herculean task. Procrastination becomes a never-ending cycle of leaving things to the last minute and then having to deal with the subsequent shame and guilt.

In social situations or your intimate relationships, you may end up feeling misunderstood when your mind constantly wanders off or you don’t follow up on the things you say you will do. Above all, this sustained underachieving can impact your self-esteem—despite your best efforts, there’s a nagging sense of falling short of not living up to your potential.

At Stark Wellness, we offer a personalized approach to helping you manage your Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorderand providing support for you and your loved ones through therapy.

ADHD IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON NEURODEVELOPMENT DISORDER

Approximately 9.4% of children and teens aged 2-17 years have been identified (at school or primary care settings) and diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder by a mental health professional. Usually, more males than females are diagnosed because of differences in symptoms and presentations. This means that most females are under-diagnosed.

Even though ADHD is often diagnosed in childhood, it persists into adulthood. Most undiagnosed adults seek help when they experience challenges at work, in relationships, or with their daily functioning. They are often surprised (and relieved) to finally be able to identify the source of their symptoms.

A one-size-fits-all strategy does not work for managing ADHD

Many people find the process of treating their ADHD on their own very challenging. The reasons are that ADHD varies so widely from person to person and often encompasses complex sets of symptoms which requires a multifaceted approach.

For example, ADHD can be coupled with anxiety, depression, or learning disabilities. Addressing these conditions at the same time is important and adds a layer of complexity that is difficult to accomplish alone. A tailored treatment plan is crucial and can be difficult to implement without a professional support system.

At Stark Wellness, we can provide you with the comprehensive, individualized treatment and support you’ll need to manage your ADHD symptoms successfully. While living with ADHD may present challenges, with patience, perseverance, and the right combination of counselling strategies, you can lead a fulfilling and productive life.

Therapy can help you embrace your ADHD symptoms and lead you to the life you deserve

Many people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder feel hopeless and tired of battling symptoms on their own, and even the thought of starting therapy can feel overwhelming. That’s where we come in and take away the guesswork.

We have a deep understanding of ADHD. And we offer a warm nurturing environment where you can open up and safely discuss your difficulties.

Our therapists have specialized training and expertise, including evidence-based therapeutic techniques tailored specifically to treating ADHD. They can help you develop practical skills for managing your symptoms while providing an individualized approach and empathetic, non-judgemental support every step of the way.

At Stark Wellness, we also strongly believe in empowering you through psych education, helping you to understand the nature of ADHD, its symptoms, and how they affect your relationships, work, and daily functioning. Ultimately, our goal is to get to know the person behind the symptoms and enable you to thrive with ADHD so you can live a life you love.

What you can expect during sessions

Initially, we will set up a free consultation call where a counsellor will listen to your concerns and explain the process of our ADHD therapy. At that time, you will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

During your first therapy session, you and your therapist will discuss your experiences, challenges, and aspirations. Some questions you may consider are:

  • What are your motives for seeking therapy?

  • How has ADHD affected you, your relationships, work, and daily life?

With your therapist’s help, you can gain a deep understanding of your challenges with ADHD and find strategies to embrace your unique strengths. Together you will tailor a strategic treatment plan that will focus on your specific goals and lead you to learn to celebrate the diversity that comes with ADHD.

ADHD methods for your specific needs

At Stark Wellness, our therapists will use a combination of strategies aimed at managing ADHD symptoms, improving coping skills, and enhancing overall functioning.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can help you manage your ADHD symptoms. It focuses on identifying and changing negative patterns of thinking and behaviour. This can involve techniques like time management, organization skills, problem-solving strategies, and improving impulse control.

Behavioural Interventions, such as implementing structure and routines, setting up rewards and consequences systems, and utilizing strategies like mindfulness and relaxation techniques, can be helpful in managing ADHD symptoms.

Skill building in therapy may involve teaching you practical skills tailored to your individual needs. It could include strategies for improving attention, planning, and prioritization, as well as techniques for managing impulsivity and regulating emotions.

In addition, homework may also be assigned in collaboration with you and the therapist. This will help you continue your progress and growth between sessions and allow you to solidify skills and strategies.

SUPPLEMENTARY LAYERS OF TREATMENT SUPPORT

  • Regular Monitoring and Adjustments: ADHD therapy is often an ongoing process. Your therapist will regularly monitor your progress, adjust treatment strategies as needed, and provide support as you work toward your goals. Every session will have specific goals, strategies, and action plans that will be put in place.
  • Support and Accountability: Your therapist will provide support and encouragement throughout the process, helping you set realistic goals and providing accountability to help you stay on track with your treatment plan.
  • Collaboration: While therapy itself doesn't involve prescribing medication, your therapist can work in conjunction with a psychiatrist or physician to ensure that medication is effectively managing ADHD symptoms (if it is part of your treatment plan).
In some cases, therapy may involve family members, particularly if ADHD symptoms are impacting family dynamics or relationships. Family therapy can help improve communication, understanding, and support within the family unit.

By taking a multifaceted approach while providing support and guidance to ADHD, we can help you effectively manage your symptoms, lead a successful life, and thrive!

Questions and concerns you may still have about ADHD

Do I need medication in addition to therapy for ADHD?

While medication can be helpful for some individuals with ADHD, therapy alone can also be effective. It depends on individual preferences, severity of symptoms, and other factors. Your therapist can help you explore the best treatment options for your specific needs.

How can I tell if therapy is working for me?

You may notice improvements in your ability to manage symptoms, cope with challenges, and achieve your goals. It's also important to communicate with your therapist about your progress and any concerns you may have.

How long does ADHD therapy typically last?

The duration of counselling varies depending on individual needs and goals. Some people may see improvement in a few months, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy. Your therapist will work with you to create a personalized ADHD treatment plan.
