Anxiety greatly affects how you reason, and without the appropriate resources, it may be difficult to manage or overcome it alone. If you are not feeling like yourself, that is a good enough reason to start considering treatment options.

Anxiety comes with a range of symptoms

At times, you may be irritable, unfocused, and indecisive, and as a result, you might worry about making the wrong decision. Or maybe your anxiety manifests in specific fears and phobias (of animals, insects, height, blood, etc.) that feel impossible to overcome.

You may also notice a variety of physical symptoms, such as:

  • Digestive issues (irritable bowel symptoms)

  • Fatigue, sweating, nausea

  • Trouble sleeping

  • Panic Attacks

All you want is to free yourself from this constant sense of impending danger, panic, or doom hanging over your head, but you are not sure how.

ANXIETY IS A FUNDAMENTAL PART OF BEING HUMAN

Anxiety is a condition that affects nearly 30% of adults at some point in their lives. We all, on occasion, are anxious or worried, and it is normal to feel this way, especially during times of stress.

However, if your anxious feelings are more than you can manage and are interfering with your daily life, you may be dealing with an anxiety disorder.

You are not alone in your struggles

There are many factors that contribute to why a person may develop anxiety. Once affected by fears that interfere with daily functioning, the inability to control these worries can make anxious moments even worse.

However, whether you are suffering from panic attacks, worried thoughts, and/or specific phobias, it is imperative to know that you do not have to go through it alone.

Seeking counselling for anxiety provides you with the tools to identify, understand, and overcome your worries and fears. It also encourages you to gain new skills and perspectives that help improve your mood and overall well-being.

What you can expect during sessions

During our free consultation call, we will explain how therapy at Stark Wellness Clinic generally works. At that time, you can also ask the therapist any questions you may still have about our anxiety therapy process.

The initial session(s) will allow you and your therapists to get a sense of each other. You will also have the opportunity to talk about your reasons for seeking counselling and what effect your anxiety is having on you, your relationship, work, and life.

Ongoing sessions will help you explore the reasons behind your anxiety symptoms together with your counsellor so that you can gain clarity about your stress, identify your negative thoughts, and gain a deeper understanding of what you are currently experiencing. This will also provide a foundation to establish your therapeutic goals and determine which strategies would be helpful for your unique situation.

Throughout therapy, you may be provided with a variety of tips and exercises that you can apply

outside of sessions. This includes such things as breathing exercises and a “thought record” to

reduce stress in your everyday life and help you adopt healthier lifestyle habits.

Tailored treatment for your specific anxiety symptoms

Our specialists at Stark Wellness Clinic are highly trained in the many different interventions used for overcoming anxiety disorders. These disorders differ considerably; therefore, the choice of method is tailored to you and the severity of your symptoms.

The main approaches we use in treating anxiety at our clinic are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure Therapy.

CBT Icon

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an anxiety treatment approach that is designed to help you change your thinking and behavioural patterns and improve the way you feel. CBT sessions are typically focused on your current concerns and how to develop the skills needed to change your distortions in thinking and reevaluate them in the light of reality. This leads to you learning to develop more confidence in your own abilities and how to effectively deal with potential stressors on your own.

Exposure Therapy

Exposure Therapy is a form of therapy that was developed to help people with anxiety confront their fears. Using this treatment has great benefits, such as building tolerance and breaking the pattern of avoidance and fear you may have built up due to your anxiety.

ACT

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an empirically validated treatment that teaches you how to accept and smooth the uncomfortable thoughts and feelings you may have connected to anxiety while committing to taking action to make changes in your life.

Anxiety disorders are one of the most common and treatable disorders in North America. With the help of psychotherapy, those who suffer from anxiety tend to experience a reduction in symptoms.

Questions and concerns you may still have about anxiety therapy

I don't know if I'll be comfortable opening up about my anxiety.

It is normal to feel hesitant at first. Opening up is hard when you are just getting to know your therapists. Our therapists have extensive experience and understand that it might take time to build trust. They serve as an outside perspective that is not personally affected by the choices you make, which is why it is beneficial to seek therapy if you have this fear of opening up to others.

What if I become too dependent on therapy?

The purpose of anxiety therapy is to help you learn new skills so you can identify and cope with your feelings and thoughts. We also emphasise having a solid social foundation outside of therapy to support you and your needs. Our therapists know how to empower you while setting boundaries to help improve your well-being.

Will I have enough time with my therapist to discuss all my anxiety-related problems?

Yes, our clinic prides itself on being flexible. Depending on your anxiety-related problems and their severity, it may take several or just a few sessions to feel that you are making progress. Typically, therapeutic benefits increase with time.
