Sex Therapy
Reclaim pleasure, connection and confidence with your partner.
Through a supportive, judgment-free space, you’ll learn to communicate openly, rebuild trust, and rediscover a sense of ease and satisfaction in your sexual and emotional connection.
Have you been struggling with intimacy, desire, or sexual well-being?
At Stark Wellness Clinic in Toronto, our sex therapy specialists help you address sexual concerns in a safe, non-judgmental environment so you can reclaim pleasure, connection and confidence.
What is sex therapy?
Sex therapy is a clinical approach to addressing sexual difficulties, including issues around desire, arousal, performance, orgasm, pain, body image, intimacy and sexual identity. When sexual concerns persist for women, men or couples, they can impact self-esteem, relationships and overall well-being. Sex therapy is designed to create a therapeutic space where sexual functioning and satisfaction can be explored and improved.
Who can benefit from sex therapy?
You might consider sex therapy if you are experiencing:
-
Low or mismatched sexual desire (hypoactive sexual desire)
-
Difficulty with arousal or maintaining sexual interest
-
Performance anxiety, erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation
-
Difficulty achieving orgasm or sexual satisfaction
-
Pain during intercourse (dyspareunia, vaginismus)
-
Sexual trauma, past abuse or difficulty trusting intimacy
-
Body image issues, shame around sexual expression or sexual identity concerns
-
Challenges in a sexual relationship: mismatched libido, communication problems, infidelity, desire discrepancy
OUR APPROACH TO SEX THERAPY AT STARK WELLNESS CLINIC

At our Toronto clinic we use an integrative and evidence-informed approach to sex therapy, tailored to your unique sexual narrative.
Our approach includes:
-
A safe, confidential and sex-positive space to explore sexual concerns.
-
Psycho-education about sexual functioning to explore sexual concerns.
-
Cognitive-behavioural techniques to reduce performance anxiety and negative self-talk.
-
Emotion-focused therapy to improve connection, intimacy and communication between partners
-
Mindfulness and body-based techniques to enhance arousal, embodiment and sexual presence
-
Sensate focus exercises (when appropriate) to bridge sexual pleasure and intimacy in couples
-
Trauma-informed care when sexual concerns are rooted in past trauma or relational disruption
Why choose sex therapy over other approaches?
Unlike general counselling, sex therapy specializes in sexual functioning, pleasure and relationship systems.
-
It is targeted and goal-oriented: working specifically with sexual issues rather than general life concerns.
-
It addresses mind + body + relationship: recognizing that sexual difficulties often involve physical responses, feelings, beliefs and relational patterns.
-
It fosters open communication and education: many sexual issues stem from shame, misinformation or lack of communication — sex therapy tackles these directly.
-
It’s non-judgmental and inclusive: we work with individuals, couples and all sexual orientations and gender identities to ensure sexual wellness for everyone.
What to expect in a session
Your first session begins with a comprehensive intake: we’ll explore your sexual history, relationship context, medical/physical factors, and specific goals. Subsequent sessions involve:
Collaborative goal-setting: whether it’s increasing desire, improving orgasm, reducing pain, or enhancing intimacy.
Homework between sessions: exercises and reflections to build sexual awareness and skills.
Partner involvement (when relevant): communication tools, sensate focus assignments and relational check-ins.
Sessions are typically 50 minutes and offered online or in-person at our Toronto location.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is sex therapy just for couples?
Not at all. While many couples seek sex therapy, individuals can also benefit whether they’re single or in a relationship.
How long will therapy take?
The duration depends on the nature and complexity of the issue. Some clients see significant change in 6-12 sessions; others with deeper trauma or longer-standing patterns may need more time.
Will therapy involve physical examination?
No. Sex therapy is psychological and relational in nature. If physical or medical issues (like hormone imbalances, medication side-effects, pain) are relevant, we will liaise with your GP or referred specialist.
Is everything discussed here confidential?
Absolutely. Our sessions follow the same privacy and ethical standards as all counselling services at Stark Wellness Clinic.
